EA Sports officially announced the list of 100 Icons that will feature in upcoming FIFA 23. Three new Icons, Gerd Muller, Xabi Alonso and Jairzinho expand the number of legends available in next and final installment of FIFA, but there are 8 missing icons from the list, which were featured in FIFA 22.
The missing list features some footballing greats but overall most of them were considered “Fodder” for the SBC’s by the FIFA community. The 8 missing icons from FIFA 23 Icons List are:
- Diego Maradona (Argentina)
- Iker Casillas (Spain)
- Cafu (Brazil)
- Ryan Giggs (Wales)
- Pep Guardiola (Spain)
- Deco (Portuguese)
- Filippo Inzaghi (Italy)
- Marc Overmars (Netherlands)
The reason for missing them from the list in still unknown but according to leaks on Twitter, they might not feature in FIFA anymore. Or maybe could get added back in near future.
Earlier this year, Diego Maradona was removed from FIFA 22 after a row over image rights.
When users started the game that time, following message appeared: “Due to a third party legal dispute, we must suspend Diego Maradona from appearing in FIFA Ultimate Team Packs, Ultimate Draft and the Soccer Aid World XI team. As such, Diego Maradona Icon Items will no longer be made available in Packs, SBCs and FUT Draft, and their price range has been fixed until further notice. We share our fans’ disappointment and hope to bring one of football’s greatest icons back in the game at some point in the future.”
Among the Icons missing list, Marc Overmars was also removed earlier in FIFA 22 after his departure from Ajax. When opening up the Ultimate Team mode, an in-game message popped up: “To the FIFA community, Marc Overmars has been suspended from appearing in FIFA Ultimate Team Packs and Ultimate Draft. As such, Marc Overmars ICON items will no longer be made available in Packs, SBCs and FUT Draft, and their range in the Transfer Market has been fixed until further notice.”
