Following the release of EA Sports’ FIFA 23 Title Update 4 on November 15th, numerous reports and complaints have been made regarding the possibility of EA Sports changing the AcceleRATE system. This didn’t just impacted the players in game but drastically affected the Transfer Market. In this in-depth article we tried to explain how new AcceleRATE system works after the patch and can it be resolved and how Transfer Market has acted after the patch.
Several videos were posted on Twitter showing that the Lengthy AcceleRATE type was no longer effective and everyone started to panic because most of the users have squads full of Lengthy AcceleRATE type players, well which was considered Meta, meaning number of physically strong players were considered meta in FIFA 23 including Haaland, Sorloth, and Van Dijk.
Numerous videos popped all over social media and everyone was surprised with the results after the recent title update. The video from user IamFrench went viral, gaining 1.6M views and 14.4k likes just in few hours. The video showed how Van Dijk (with Lengthy AcceleRATE type) had problems running after Insigne (with Explosive AcceleRATE type. The same user posted couple of more videos showing how Explosive and Controlled AcceleRATE types are taking over Lengthy type.
As a result of these reports, EA Sports decided to clarify, and despite acknowledging that there was a problem with dribbling that caused some players to experience unexpected slowdowns while dribbling. However, it has clarified that the AcceleRATE system has not been reconfigured. As a result of this bug, Footballers with Explosive and Controlled AcceleRATE types were slowed down by this bug, which has been resolved.
EA Sports tweeted about the patch stating
“We’ve seen some discussions about a specific dribbling line in the TU #4 notes and wanted to provide additional clarity surrounding the issue that was addressed. “In some cases, players could incorrectly slow down when attempting to dribble with the ball.“
The dribbling slowdown could have happened at times when sprinting with the ball, and the slowdown most commonly affected players with high dribbling-related Attributes. AcceleRATE values are unimpacted by this.
Nofil Khan, a FUT analyst, who often share in-depth details related to such FIFA issues. He explained the the Title Update patch brilliantly, which we surely want to share here.
So the biggest question that’s being asked right now is : “IS THE LENGTHY META DEAD?” The answer? Yes and No
“I’ve studied the myriad of clips floating around Twitter as well as testing it out in game personally. The conclusion I’ve reached is that a card being Lengthy is not the end goal of having the most OP team in the game anymore. This doesn’t mean that the boost is lost on them“
What changes with the patch?
At the beginning of FIFA 23 people have tried to discern the difference between these AcceleRATE types and if/why Lengthy feels Meta and what the problem is with the other types (Explosive/Controlled). The main reason for this was the fact that on the ball, Controlled/Explosive players seemed to abruptly decelerate after their initial burst, taking a longer time to reach their top sprint speed, while Lengthy players reached theirs quicker. Since a lot of defenders has the Lengthy AcceleRATE type, this put the Non-Lengthy attackers at a serious disadvantage against these players. With the reduced responsiveness of dribbling, these players had very few avenues to beat their Lengthy opponents.
On the other hand, the Lengthy attackers had no such disadvantage. They could go toe to toe with the Lengthy defenders and pose a challenge to them. This made the game feel tailored to favour Lengthy players and so we rushed to make/get the Lengthy attribute into our teams
With the new Title Update #4 from EA SPORTS the pitch notes revealed previously unknown information after people started noticing the significantly boosted feel of Controlled/Explosive players.
It all boils down to this one note. What was previously seen as an attribute of the Explosive/Controlled AcceleRATE type was revealed to be a bug where players would incorrectly SLOW DOWN when trying to DRIBBLE.
This would happen when players with HIGH DRIBBLING tried to SPRINT WITH THE BALL. Explosive/Controlled AcceleRATE type was blamed when it was the high dribbling stats causing this unwanted deceleration. Let’s bring to attention another feature of Next Gen-Technical Dribbling. This is the mechanic that has been hindering LS Dribbling in NG as it replaces classic LS Dribbling completely. As we dive into the Pitch Notes of this Title Update #4 there are a lot of soft patches to dribbling and skill move mechanics on top of the one mentioned earlier. LS dribbling is not fixed but the effect significant on long sprints with players having higher dribbling stats. No more abrupt decelerations at starts. The reason this is so visible with Explosive/Controlled players is that the requirements for those types is high dribbling
This makes it feel like EA have shadow patched AcceleRATE which isn’t the case. What has happened is that a broken dribbling mechanism has been fixed along with others. Players with high dribbling stats(Explosive/Controlled) have an advantage over their length opponents in terms of starting position and top speed on the ball. They can no longer be outright bullied when being chased with the ball. This means that we can’t just look to make our cards Lengthy. The need for balance in the squad has just skyrocketed. I can safely say that the LENGTHY META of having purely physical players to give an advantage is over. The LENGTHY META IS DEAD
Here is where it gets interesting. We’ve discussed all the ways Explosive/Controlled players finally have an advantage over the Lengthy cards, so how is this any different from earlier where we rushed to make all our cards Lengthy? The difference lies in the fact that most, if not all these changes come into play when the other player has the *Ball*. These boosts and changes work when the Explosive/Controlled players Off the ball, their behaviour is mostly unchanged. Lengthy players, without the ball, will still catch up to the Controlled/AcceleRATE types which makes them *invaluable* in defence. This is why I don’t think the Lengthy boost is gone. It’s just no longer broken like it used to be
Don’t go scrambling to switch your players to Controlled/Explosive just to switch with the crowd. Nobody’s going to be able to find the right balance for your team except you. Find your balance and use it.
Right now, the chaos is making it extremely effective to play 4-1-2-1-2(2) and 3-5-2, using FIFA 21 Cutback tactics by running down the line. This might not be a long term solution My guideline right now would be Lengthy on CBs, ST and CDM Explosive/Controlled for wide players
As for other players, it’s a personal preference. Pace is now a lot more important than it used to be, bring out the Gyans and Buchanans. Test as much as you can and find the player to fit your style, you won’t regret it.
On a special note, a player a lot of people have asked about; CR7. Personally, I would still use an architect on him. The hunter will actually make him feel a little faster now, but the physical boosts are still invaluable. It’s a choice you have to make.
This isn’t a single wave of change that LENGTHY had at the very beginning, but it is definitely a major shift from the current meta. Let’s see where we go from here.
Well, Nofil explained everything perfectly and surely makes sense now.
IMAPCT ON TRANSFER MARKET
Now the main question here is, what about the Transfer Market? People are loosing coins because of this “new Meta”. Players with Lengthy AcceleRATE type are down while Explosive and Controlled are through sky.
As you maybe saw, EA killed lenghty. Therefore lengthy, former meta players dropping amd explosive cards rising.
This is basically panic in both directions now. Panic selling and panic buying.
This wont continue forever. Explosive cards will drop again at least a bit and lenghty cards will rebound aat some point at least a bit.
Unnatural movements on the market like this I prefer to avoid. They rely too much on tik toks, YouTube videos etc.
Tomorrow people could easily hype Haaland up again because even with the new meta he is solid or he just continues to drop. No way to predict that.
If you wonder about cards in your team or for your team, my advice would always be to dont look at it from a trading perspective. If you want the card, keep/buy it. If you dont want the card, sell/dont buy it.
